Are you teaching a new course or thinking about revising one you already teach? Join us for some hands-on working sessions where we will guide you through the elements of course design and revision with lots of time for you to actually build your course. This mosquito-free event, organized by the UMA Faculty Development Center, will be held indoors, but there will be s’mores and campfire stories!

Day 1: Build Your Course - January 7

The first day of camp will provide an overview of the course design process, an introduction to Kaltura and Zoom, your course objectives and assessments planned, strategies for engaging your learners, and lots of great ideas from your colleagues. 

Who should attend

Adjuncts and full-time faculty who are new, will be building a new course, teaching a course new to them, or teaching in a new modality.

What you will get at the end of the day

  • Written course objectives
  • Plans for mastery assessments
  • Strategies for engaging students
  • Plans for collecting data and providing feedback to learners

Schedule for the day

8:30 - Coffee, informal time
9:00 - Backwards Design: concept introduction and discussions in small groups
10:00 - Choice time:

Learn It & Prove It (Course Objectives and Summative Assessments)
Student Engagement Strategies
Checking Progress & Correcting Course (Formative Assessment & Feedback) 

11:30 - Lunch

12:00 - Walk & Talk - share what we learned
12:30 - Mini workshop: Intro to Kaltura

Day 2: Any Way You Want It - January 8

We welcome you to work on your course and engage with colleagues in a group space, with an instructional designer on hand for questions as they arise. You can also reserve a one-hour time slot to receive individual support. Bring your own to-do list, laptop and questions, and we will help you develop your course or explore ideas.

Who should attend

Any adjuncts and full-time faculty who would like some individualized support.

  • You set the agenda, so you decide

Schedule for the day

8:30 - Coffee, informal time
9:00 - 3:00 YOU DECIDE: schedule an appointment for one-on-one support and/or set aside time to work on your course with Instructional Services staff available for assistance.
